Challenge:

High costs and intensive service of firetube maintenance has been a growing problem for both vertical and horizontal treaters. Due to the corrosive environment of the firetube’s location on a vessel (water contact), the risk of failure is significant and the threat of a catastrophic accident (fire) is very high. Even the slightest imperfection in metal integrity from corrosion, such as a small pin-hole, can destroy an entire production facility as the result of fire…and several have been destroyed. This firetube problem posed both a significant environmental risk and severe safety issue – many times occurring after it was too late to prevent the incident.

Solution:

With the extensive oil and gas production background of the 12:eleven team, multiple solutions to mitigate the risk of these firetube failures were evaluated and considered. In order to innovate, many traditional and conventional mental models and production processes were eliminated during the problem-solving exercise. The ultimate solution was to eliminate a conventional treater and introduce indirect heating with a complementary piece of equipment. This allowed for indirect oil heating through a low-pressure method in a non-corrosive environment; therefore, mitigating risk of firetube failures. This new, innovative process not only reduced the environmental risk and the obvious safety issue, but additional safety improvements were realized as it relates to maintenance. The positive impact of the solution also justified a special spacing variance order from the state commission authority. This variance allows for the placement of the production vessel much closer to the storage tanks; thus, significantly reducing the production pad size and resulting in large customer savings.

Our Leadership

Michael is a 20-year veteran of manufacturing quality, operations, and management. Before joining the Sharp Iron Group as President and partner in 2014, he was a senior manager for fortune-50 aerospace company, Pratt & Whitney, for over 15 years. In that time, Michael led successful initiatives in virtually every facet of the turbine engine supply chain, from repair and overhaul of business aviation components, to major overhaul of commercial jetliner engines. While at Sharp Iron Group, Michael has navigated the company through several major growth initiatives including ASME code certification as well as several plant expansions and company acquisitions.

When not at work, Michael stays busy as Chairman of United Regional Health Care System’s Board of Trustees, as well as serving on several other non-profit boards and advisory committees. He is also heavily involved with his church and, of course, his family, including wife, Francie, daughter, Madeline, and son, Riley. Michael holds a BBA degree in Business Administration from Midwestern State University.

Over twenty (20+) years of experience designing, engineering and fabricating oilfield production equipment. A history of managing both small and large teams and up to nine-figure revenue streams. His experience and history also included, leading the start-up of business units and divisions in multiple geographic locations throughout North America. Josh’s depth of field experience and formal education combined with his history in engineering and design roles have developed into a unique capability and rounded knowledge for creating innovative solutions for customers.

    • Ranger Infantryman / Staff Sargent.
    • Honor graduate.
    • Successfully led several combat missions in high risk/ targeted areas.
    • Led and trained in upwards of 250+ soldiers at boot camp per cycle.
    • Honorably discharged for completion of military duty.
  • Granted a SECRET security clearance by the Department of Defense

Josh has a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, a BS in Business, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA).  Josh also received his PMP (Project Management Professional) certification.

With over 10 years of project management experience in various industries, George brings a skill to the team that delivers a high level of accountability and service to our customers. His background also includes management and leadership related to coordinating purchases, deliveries, and inventory of high value materials. Previous duties have led him into positions where he was solely responsible and accountable for all the equipment and materials of the organization. He has also worked within various state regulations related to purchasing parts and materials for high profile special projects.

George has held roles where he was responsible for developing training materials for various site administrators. George has always maintained good working relationships with point of contacts to ensure needs were met in a timely and efficient manner – with a goal to always exceed expectations. Through hard work and determination, George has earned the trust and confidence of his customers and has developed many long-term relationships throughout his career.

George holds a BA in Psychology at Midwestern State University.

Karen joined the company in 2007 as a Customer Service Rep for our heavy fabrication division, BW Fabricators.  However, she quickly mastered that role and expanded her impact to many other areas of the business, including Accounting, HR support, and overall office management.  Over the years that followed, Karen continued to support the business in immeasurable ways.  In 2014, as part of a strategic expansion project, Sharp Iron Group launched a field services division to support industrial and municipal water and wastewater clients.  Karen was a key member of the launch team for this initiative, providing total administrative and client support.

Further organizational restructuring lead to Karen taking on HR duties such as payroll, benefits management, and other personnel-related responsibilities, culminating in her promotion in 2018 to Human Resource Manager for not only Sharp Iron Group and 12:eleven Production Equipment, but a sister company as well.  In this role, Karen has direct responsibility for talent recruitment, hiring and retention, compensation and benefits, employment policies and procedures, as well as compliance with legal and customer requirements.

Her most significant responsibility, however, is that of champion of company culture.  Our company knows that people are the only part of the business with eternal value, and Karen leads the charge in ensuring that 1) we have the right talent at the right time to meet every expectation of our customers, and that 2) every employee feels valued and known.  Karen truly embodies the core motto of 12:eleven as she “serves with zeal” our people and our partners.

A Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Cindy has been with the company for over 10 years in the Accounting Department, and has served as Controller for the past 3.  In this role, she manages every aspect of our corporate finances, from cost accounting and reporting of performance to financial planning and strategic growth initiatives.  Our strong financial foundation is due in large part to her leadership and guidance.

Prior to joining the Sharp Iron Group, Cindy worked for a CPA firm, preparing individual, partnership, and estate tax returns for over 10 years.  Prior to that, she had over 7 years of corporate tax experience.  All in all, Cindy has contributed to the world of corporate tax and finance for almost 30 years.

In her spare time, Cindy enjoys spending time with family and friends, including her husband, Bryan.  She also enjoys crafting, solving puzzles, biking and swimming. Cindy holds a BBA in Management and Accounting from Oklahoma State University, and received her CPA license in 1988, which she continues to maintain each year through continuing education and recertification.

With over 30 years of faithful service to the company, Sandra is a true fixture of the Sharp Iron Group and 12:eleven Production Equipment.  Starting in the office with accounting and other clerical responsibilities, Sandra was very quickly tasked with taking on the Production Control role.  It was here that she first began performing customer contract review and shop work order creation.  She also managed engineering changes and customer returns, as well as the occasional “hot expedite”!

Sandra further perfected her customer support craft when she took on the role of Production Control Manager, where she was instrumental in developing and implementing the robust scheduling system that is still in use today.  In addition to the above, her work group added the responsibilities of costing standards and overall delivery performance.

For the past 16-plus years, Sandra has faithfully served as Customer Service Manager.  She is usually the first person you talk to when you call us… and she prides herself and her team on getting answers quickly.  Managing the high expectations of our clients and transitioning those expectations into executable jobs for the production team is where Sandra and her team thrive.  Her passion for getting it right, and getting it on time every time, is second to none.  For decades, our customers have relied on Sandra’s professionalism and drive to meet expectations, and when you partner with us, you will as well.

As 12:eleven’s Inventory and Purchasing Manager, Nick personally ensures that all products are procured in a cost effective and timely manner that meets the expectations of our clients and production teams.  Inventory accuracy, supplier management, and compliance with client expectations are top priorities.

Nick came to the Sharp Iron Group with a solid base of professional experience.  In a prior role, he was responsible for managing an offshore Quality Assurance team in the execution of online products and services. This included monitoring performance, identifying and improving issues, and working with sales and software developers to continuously improve the product.  He has also worked with sales teams as well as national chain stores on strategic pricing and promotions structures. His focus on marketing to different demographics, analyzing sales data, and looking for new opportunities lead to growth, both for his business as well as the client’s. 

Nick holds a BBA in Finance from Midwestern State University and has 6 years of analytical and procurement experience in roles such as sales analyst, product analyst, and purchasing/inventory manager.
